If you haven’t updated from Lion to Mountain Lion it’s worth noting that the new Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks upgrade will introduce you to all of the features from Mountain Lion plus quite a few new ones: The major new feature in Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is the expansion and further integration of iCloud, which is now deeply integrated throughout the system. ![]() Right now we’d suggest waiting for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks but it’s now a stable release so a good upgrade if you put it off earlier due to compatibility concerns. And in this sense Mac OS X 10.8 remains a triumphant success. Notes, Reminders, Messages and Game Center are all designed to enable you to seamlessly move back and forth between iOS and OS X devices. Perhaps of more importance are all the subtle interactions of iCloud, which bring together your Mac with your iOS devices. We like the implementation of Notification Center. Some of the more extreme elements of the skeuomorphic interface are a little odd, and the knowledge that it’s all being replaced with Flat design in iOS 7 shows that Apple wasn’t really happy with it either. ![]() It’s shame to see that Messages still isn’t as reliable as we’d like though. Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion was a solid update with a great collection of new features.
